About Nelson Insurance Agency, Inc.
Nelson Insurance Agency was founded in 1966 at 100 North 6th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas, by Gene Nelson, Jr., CPCU. He was joined in partnership later that year by his brother Dick Nelson. Gene Nelson III, CPCU, joined the firm in 1977 and assumed management of the agency in 1980 following his father's death. Also, in 1980, Sue Nelson, widow of Gene Jr. and mother of Gene III, joined the firm.
The agency incorporated in 1987 as Nelson Insurance Agency, Inc. with Gene III as President and Sue as Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer. In 1998 a new agency home was constructed at 921 South 21st Street, where the office remains today. That same year Nelson Insurance co-founded Inter Agency Insurance, Inc., an insurance cluster, along with three other local independent insurance agencies.
